Try some fun practice links...
LISTENING/SPEAKING: We are reading a variety of books as a class and exploring different elements of a story. We are practicing excellent listening and asking meaningful questions. We are sharing our opinions and trying to give evidence that supports our opinions. We are sharing our writing aloud and working on our presentation voice.
READING: The Library will be available for our students on Thursday morning, they may choose a new book to read each week. (This should help them be prepared to D.E.A.R. time and encourage reading for pleasure).
D.E.A.R. is an independent reading program that will be 15-20 minutes each day.
Students are being tested on their reading level and we are encouraging good decoding, self correction and fluency. Good readers try every word and use strategies like sentence finishing and looking at pictures to improve their reading.
WRITING: We are working on the writing process. First we are drafting stories using the great ideas we've created. Then, we are editing and peer editing our work. We are then creating final copies of our writing for class books and share times. These polished pieces, along with all work in the writing folders, will be graded for marks.
GRAMMAR: We are looking at SENTENCES in grammar. We are looking at commas and compound sentences. We are looking for mistakes and learning how to fix any we find within a sentence.
We are continuing our work with our word wall.
As always, we have a spelling quiz on Thursday morning.
Raz Kids Instructions
Each student in 3A has been provided with a new Raz Kids account this year. These accounts are designed to help kids improve their reading and comprehension so they can move up in through the reading levels (a-z).
To use your account, go to: http://www.raz-kids.com/
Click on teacher login and put in the following username:
carsenault11
Find your name on the list. Click it and then click on reading assignment to see your selected books. Each student has an assigned reading level and they should be practicing as much as possible every week.
Feel free to sign up as a parent and view your student's progress. Students may explore the site and use books above or below their level, but they are strongly encouraged to read the books selected for them. Students must read the books, not listen to them and answer the quiz at the end. Students who are simply listening to books are not improving their reading level.
ENJOY! :)
